Not really, it’s quite difficult to prove any of the claims authoritatively. There are also caveats introduced like “oldest continually inhabited”, and in some cases the original building has been replaced entirely with a new one so while the site may have been occupied the current building wasn’t. Then there’s an argument as to whether or not a castle that is now a hotel is truly inhabited in the sense of lived in permanently.
Dunvegan Castle (13th century), Traquair House (12th century building replaced some time later) and Duntrune Castle (also 13th century) are also sometimes claimed as the oldest inhabited castle.

All good points. I have not yet visited the three castles you mentioned.
The touch of lighting enhances the image. Good one. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thank you, dear Frank. A wonderful Thanksgiving to you and your family as well.
One of several claimants to be “Scotland’s oldest inhabited castle”!
Ha, well, everyone wants to be the cool kid, I suppose, lol. Do you have an opinion on which castle actually is the oldest inhabited castle?
